Ball valve knowledge

There are other kinds of valves such as safety valves, butterfly valves, choke valves and many others. Each one is used for one or more application that it fits in. Ball valve is perfectly fitted for shutoff applications.
A hole or port is composed in the sphere through its middle; the purpose is for flow to take place when the port is in line with the two ends of the valve. A ball valve has a spherically shaped disc, the valve’s part which monitors the flow through it. The kind of seat required is dependent on materials used and the pressure rating. Subsequently, flow is blocked as the hole becomes perpendicular to the ends of the valve at the close of the valve. The valve’s position can be seen as the lever or handle will be in line with the position of the port.
Ball valves do not achieve the fine control needed in throttling applications, although they can be sometimes used for such purpose. Even after many years of use, ball valve still work to accomplish perfect shutoff; they are durable in nature. If you are therefore looking for the best valves for shut off applications, these valves are the best suited; in the context of shutoff applications, they suit perfectly and better in comparison with the globe valves and gate valves.
These valves can compose of metal or plastic body; or metal with a ceramic center while the ball is usually chrome plated to enhance its durability. They belong to the family of quarter turn high pressure check valve along side with plug valve and butterfly valve. Because of their versatile nature, ball valves are widely used in industry; they support pressures of about 700 bars temperatures reaching to 2000C. These valves are sized between 0.5 cm and 30 cm. The procedure of operating and repairing the valves is quite easy.
The trunnion design is among the higher-pressure rated and indicates that the face of each ball valve is not together but separately sealed. All valves seats are not the same; while some are of single molded variety, others are of high pressure ratings.
These devices can be beneficially purchased at lower price. Their regulating element’s design aids their functioning without bothering about side loads; also, its design gives room for easy fix of the seats in problematic situations and also seals with the body of the pressure relief valve in the line. These types of valves are good in many respects; they are usually seen as being superior relative to some other kinds of valves. They function to maintain and regulate 3 basic things; high volume, high pressure and high flow of temperature.
The ball valves are the preferred types of valves for shutoff applications; but they might function effectively as well in throttling applications. They are supported by elastomeric cushions that supply pressure against the ball and also make provision for wear. As noted earlier, these types of steel valve work to achieve complete shutoff irrespective of the number of years they have been in use.

About ball valve, include trunion ball valve ,floating ball valve

A ball valve, one type of quarter turn valve, is quite literally a ball placed in a passageway through which fluid flows. The ball has a hole through it, by which the valve opens and closes. When the ball is positioned so that the hole runs the same direction as the passageway, the fluid simply flows through the hole, and the valve is open. However, when the ball is positioned so that the hole is perpendicular to the passageway, the fluid cannot pass through, and the valve is closed. The ball is controlled from outside the valve, often with a handle that is turned 90 degrees, or a quarter turn, back and forth to open and close the valve.

The basic ball valve, described above, is a two-way valve. This ball valve has a
single, straight passageway bored through the ball, making two openings: one on each side, an inlet and an outlet. A ball valve can also be a three-way valve if a third hole is bored partially through the ball, until it meets the main hole, forming a T. A three-way ball valve can shut off one or all of the three passageways it connects.

Ball valves are durable and usually work to achieve perfect shutoff even after years of disuse. They are therefore an excellent choice for shutoff applications (and are often preferred to globe valves and gate valves for this purpose). They do not offer the fine control that may be necessary in throttling applications but are sometimes used for this purpose.

Ball valves are used extensively in industrial applications because they are very
versatile, supporting pressures up to 1000 bar and temperatures up to 482°F (250°C). Sizes typically range from 0.2 to 11.81 inches (0.5 cm to 30 cm). They are easy to repair and operate. The body of ball valves may be made of metal, plastic or metal with a ceramic center. The ball is often chrome plated to make it more durable.
A ball-check valve is a type of check valve with a ball without a hole for a disc.

Ball valve, basicaly have two type ball fixed way. Trunion ball valve and floating ball valve. The key difference beteween a floating ball valve and a trunnion mounted ball valve is how each achieves a line seal. Trunion mounted ball valves are uses a spring mechanism and/or line pressure assistance to drive the upstream seat against the stationary ball. The surface area exposed to the pressure through the relatively small passageway is actually just the back of the seat.

The floating ball valve utilize natural line pressure to press and seal the ball against the downstream seat. The line pressure is exposed to a greater surface area - the entire upstream face of the ball, which is an area equal to the actual pipe size.

Difference between gate valve and ball valve

Difference between gate valve and ball valve

Here we will try to compare with ball valve and gate valves. Generally speaking,
valves are pipe devices which are used to regulate medium such as liquids, gases and slurries solids. Valves do this by controlling the flow through pipes and other channel by opening and closing and partially obstructing the passageway or pipe. They are responsible for controlling the flow of all types of liquid, as well as the rate, pressure, volume and the direction.

Fistly, the gate valve and ball valve have apparent different structure. As we all know that a gate valve features the lifting and dropping wedge(flat palte gate, wedge gate,or knife gate). And a ball valve features the spherical closure element with a round or other-shaped hole in the middle. Besides, the number of the holding ports varies betweent gate valve and ball valve.A gate valve has two ports, which is called an inlet and an outlet. But a ball valve usually has two or more ports. However, when referring to the connections to the ports, they would be with the same ones, including the welded, flanged or threaded connection.

Secondly, the flow of two valves turns out to be with different characteristics.  A ball valve is mainly designed to be able for the regulating situations. The flow is closely proportional to the rotation of the spherical device with a hole in the middle of it.At the same time, due to the specially designed structure, a gate valve is not suitable to be opened and closed partially. As a result, a gate valve is required to shut the flow off in time in many available system.

At last, a gate valve and a ball valve vary at the mean of the actuation. Usually, a gate valve is typically with manual operation. Such is from the consideration of the precise isolation of the flow. But Gate valve can also be operated by Electric and other power .Except from the manual operation, a ball valve is also able to be driven by the electric and pneumatic actuators. Besides, Ball valve requires part turn actuator with 90degree, and gate valve usually equipped with mulit turn actuator.
